VOTING PROBLEMS: Absentee Ballot Fraud
State criminal investigators say they’re looking into reports of possible problems with absentee ballots.
The secretary of state’s office says the DCI received complaints in Floyd County of people receiving absentee ballots that they never requested.
The DCI wants to find out if someone made the requests illegally.
A DCI spokesperson says investigators are looking into what she calls “a few complaints” in both Floyd County and Muscatine and couldn’t say whether they could complete their investigation before the election.
In Muscatine County a man says a democratic campaign worker allowed his mother to sign a ballot request form for him when he wasn’t home.
It is a felony in Iowa to falsify a signature on a ballot request form.
In Floyd County, the DCI is investigating three reports of someone filling out ballot requests without the voter’s knowledge.
Around 625,000 absentee ballots have been mailed to Iowa voters and more than 470,000 have been returned.
