BANK ROBBERY: Alleged Shooters Caught
Two law enforcement officers have been shot after responding to a bank robbery in northeast Iowa and the suspects are in custody.
Police confirm that two men are in custody following a bank robbery, chase and shooting.
State Trooper Mark Domino was shot in the arm, the bullet going through his bicep and out the other side during a confrontation with bank robbery suspects. He was taken to a hospital for treatment and was released Tuesday.
Sumner Police Chief Dennis Cain was also shot during the confrontation. He suffered wounds to the hand and the neck. Cain was transported to a local hospital and is underwent surgery Tuesday. He is listed in critical but stable condition.
The Maynard Savings Bank was robbed Tuesday a little after 11:10 a.m. and Trooper Domino was in pursuit of the two suspects when he was shot. The Iowa State Patrol says a DOT Motor Vehicle Enforcement vehicle was hit by bullets during the shooting, but Officer Ben Driscoll was not injured.
The suspects bailed from their vehicle near a rock quarry in Frederika, in Bremer County.
The suspects were apprehended later Tuesday night.
