BULLY PLAY: Valley Puts On Play With Message

Thursday, Valley High School students saw the first performance of a play with an important message.

More than 100 Valley students are involved in the performance.  It’s called “Kes” and it’s based on a 1960′s British Novel.

Ben Weinberg, a senior at Valley said, “It’s a play about a boy who’s bullied on all sides of his life: at home, at school, and everywhere in the community.  And it’s about the struggle that he has, and also the hope he finds in a Kestral.”  A Kestral is a type of falcon.

The teen in the story, Billy, raises the chick and it helps him cope with being bullied.

The students involved say they are excited to put on a show concerning such a relevant topic.  Students believe the play touches those in the audience and the actors on stage.

Caitlin Edwards, a senior at Valley said, “We actually spent some rehearsal time, we all got in a circle and each of us talked about our experiences with bullying, and how it took a toll on our lives, and what we took from it.  So we want to use this play as a form of helping other students with bullying.”

Opening night is Friday.  The curtains open at 7:00.  There’s also a show on Saturday at 7:00 and a matinee at 2:00 on Sunday.

Admission is $7 for students and $8 for adults.
