The special election is now set to fill the Senate District 22 seat at the State Capitol.

Pat Ward passed away last month in the middle of her re-election campaign after a long battle with breast cancer.

The senate race will now be settled by a special election.

Thursday night, republicans gathered in Des Moines to hold a nominating convention to pick a candidate for that election.

Six candidates were vying for the nomination, including Pat Ward’s husband, John.  But after two ballots, West Des Moines City Councilman Charles Schneider was picked as the nominee.  He’ll face democrat Desmund Adams on December 11th in the special election.
