Iowans turned out in record numbers to vote in the 2012 presidential election.

More than 1.5 million votes were cast in the presidential race in Iowa.

That’s 14,000 more than in the 2008 presidential election.

Iowans also set a new early voting record, with 673,124 ballots being cast before polls opened Tuesday. That’s an increase of almost 25% in early voting from the 2008 election and broke that year’s record.
