Mercy Medical Center is showing off its newly finished pediatric intensive care unit.
The unit has eight permanent beds and 10 other multi-purpose rooms. It serves patients ages two days to 17 years.
Each room is designed exactly the same so nurses always know where items are located. There are also changes that aim to reduce medication errors.
The procedure rooms are also bigger, with everything surgeons need in one space.
There's a place in the rooms for parents so they never have to leave their child's side.
The new ICU cost about $12.5million. It's all being paid for through private fundraising efforts.
The new ICU is part of a bigger project, just last year a general pediatric clinic opened just down the hall.
The new pediatric intensive care unit opens to patients on Monday.
