Des Moines Police are still trying to piece together what led up to the crash Saturday afternoon.

It happened around 3:30 in the intersection of Meredith Drive and Merle Hay Road.

Police say it appears the motorcyclist was headed Northbound on Merle Hay Road when a Kia SUV, headed Southbound, made a left turn onto Meredith Drive.

The motorcyclist collided into the side of the turning SUV.

He was transferred to a metro hospital and police say he was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Police immediately began interviewing witnesses to determine what led up to the crash.

“We had some conflicting statements on whether the lights were green or changing, so it's hard to say but it does appear that however that the SUV did turn in front of the motorcycle but it is preliminary still,” says Sgt. Jason Halifax with the Des Moines Police Department.

The driver of the SUV is 42 year old Matthew Rodine of Des Moines, he was not injured in the crash.

The driver of the motorcycle is 38 year old Bradford Clikeman from Des Moines.

He remains in critical condition as of Saturday evening.

Charges have not been filed pending completion of the investigation.
