FALLEN SOLDIER: Services Scheduled

Visitation services are being held Wednesday night for a western Iowa soldier killed in Afghanistan.

Private First Class Brandon Buttry died on November 5th while manning a watch tower. He was a Shenandoah native.

Visitation services are Wednesday night from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 411 W. Clarinda Avenue in Shenandoah.

Funeral services are being held at 11 a.m. Thursday, also at the Shenandoah Baptist Church. 

Private First Class Buttry was 19-years-old. Buttry is survived by his parents, five brothers and eight sisters.

Gov. Terry Branstad is ordering all flags in the state to be flown at half-staff Thursday to honor Private First Class Buttry.

The order is in effect from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Flags will be at half-staff on all government properties throughout the state but homeowners, businesses and schools are encouraged to fly their flags at half-staff for the same length of time as a sign of respect.
