It’s almost Thanksgiving, but in Pella they’re ready to kick off Christmas.
Pella is getting geared up for Christmas this week. Holiday shopping starts Monday night with De Kurstdagen, the tour of stores.
That’s from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with shop owners serving up goodies and refreshments. The lighting of the Christmas tree is at 5:30 p.m. in the town square park.
The Festival of Trees is also going on at the Opera House.
The Pella Historical Village is already decked out in its Christmas garb.
Jill Vandevoort of the Convention and Visitors Bureau says shopping in Pella will give you that small town feel without the Christmas rush.
“Some would say it’s a Norman Rockwell kind of feel. You know, it’s a different feel. It’s not as hustle and bustle you might feel in the big city,” says Vandevoort.
She says Pella store owners are focusing more on small business Saturday, and not Black Friday but shoppers will still find special bargains.
