Governor Branstad came to the rescue of two turkeys Tuesday, meaning they won’t end up as the featured dish at Thanksgiving dinner.
“I, Terry E Branstad, governor of the state of Iowa, do hereby proudly proclaim Bob the turkey and Rose the turkey free from the harm of the carving knives and gravy for this Thanksgiving Day,” Branstad said.
During his annual turkey pardoning, the governor officially declared Bob and Rose “free birds”.
The turkeys were raised on a farm in Ellsworth. They’ll spend the rest of their days at Living History Farms in Urbandale.
