City and county leaders cut the ribbon on a road project designed to spur growth in Ankeny Tuesday .
The project includes a new interchange on I-35 at Northeast 36th Street.
The interstate was also widened to six lanes over a one-mile stretch. Developers say it will reduce traffic at the East First Street interchange.
The project cost $25 million.
“As we cut this ribbon we’re not only opening a new interchange, we’re opening new opportunities for Ankeny and our citizens,” says Ankeny mayor Steve Van Oort.
Authorities say the new interchange will also make for safer travel in the area.
