On the North side of town a crew is preparing to serve thousands of Thanksgiving meals, all at no charge.

A group of volunteers meets at Chuck’s Restaurant every year, at first they were serving just 300 meals, on Thanksgiving they plan to feed 3,400 hungry Iowans.

To serve up all that food it takes 300 volunteers.

The group has been meeting for the last two weeks to make the dinner a success.

It takes a lot of food to provide that many meals including 1,400 pounds of turkey, 800 pounds of ham and 850 pies.

On top of serving the meals on location here at Chuck's volunteers will also deliver over 2,500 meals to people across the metro.

The meals are for the needy but no one is turned away.

Wednesday, volunteers are making the final preparations to make sure the event goes off without a hitch.

Bob Iversen runs the kitchen and says although it's a lot of work; it pays off in the end.

The free meals will be served on Thanksgiving from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Chuck’s Restaurant is located at 3610 6th Avenue.
