The Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority ushers in a new era Friday.

The bus service makes the switch to its new Central Station on Cherry Street. It is now the main facility for catching connecting buses.

It replaces the current transfer mall on Walnut Street.

The new station features indoor waiting areas, public restrooms and other amenities the old location lacked.

To mark the opening of the new Central Station and changes to its routes, DART is offering free bus rides Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
