A car crash on Des Moines’ South side left one person dead and another in critical condition.
Just after 7 p.m. Monday two SUV’s collided near the intersection of Highway 28 and Old Army Post Road.
Police say it appears a red Chevy Blazer was driving south on Highway 28 at a high rate of speed when he lost control. The SUV crossed the median into the north bond lanes and hit a black Chevy Blazer.
The driver of the red Blazer died at the scene. Paramedics took the driver of the other vehicle to the hospital, in critical condition.
Investigators believe speed was the main factor in the incident, they say alcohol does not appear to be involved.
