A high speed chase across the metro, ended with two people sent to the hospital.
Just after midnight Tuesday, an Iowa State Patrolmen tried to pull a driver over near the 143 interchange on Interstate 80 North of Altoona for an equipment violation. Trooper Matt Papin says the driver took off, leading police on a chase through Altoona, onto Highway 163, reaching speeds of 100 miles per hour. Troopers made attempts to push the car off the road, and were able to deploy stop sticks. The driver finally pulled over around mile marker 15, near Prairie City.
Trooper Papin told Channel 13 the two suspects in the car swallowed methamphetamine before officers reached them. They were both arrested.
The driver started slipping out of consciousness; he was taken to the hospital by air ambulance. The passenger also had to be taken to the hospital.
