A land swap including three downtown Des Moines properties is getting the go ahead.

The YMCA’s board of directors approved a deal Tuesday that would have them moving to the Polk County Convention Complex.

The transaction has Polk County trading the Convention Complex to Wellmark in exchange for the old JC Penney building. Wellmark will then sell the Convention Complex to the YMCA.

The county plans to convert the JC Penney space into courtrooms.

Polk County’s board of supervisors approved the deal last week.

The YMCA says the move to the Convention Complex will take about two years.
