HELPING HAND: Job Fair For Hostess Workers

The Waterloo Community is doing what they can to help the recently jobless Hostess workers.

When Hostess filed for bankruptcy last week, the 90 workers at the Waterloo bakery lost their jobs.

The Community put together a job fair to try and ensure they don’t spend the holidays unemployed. More than 25 employers were on hand with available jobs ranging from truck drivers to bakers for 80 former hostess workers in Iowa.

Kent Zingg, a former hostess worker gives details, “I do want to check out a couple of places here and see what it is, see if there’s anything. I wouldn’t mind being a chef too you know. There’s a lot of things we can all do now if we take the time and use it right. That’s what I hope everybody does. I pray for everybody.”

During the job fair, workers were also given career training information for those who want to return to school.

Meanwhile, a judge ruled in favor of a $1.8 million bonus deal for 19 senior managers as part of the bankruptcy agreement.
