Des Moines police are mourning the loss of a heroic and well-known canine officer.

Officer Tim Nading says his partner, Reno, passed away unexpectedly yesterday after veterinarians discovered a tumor. Nading and Reno had worked together for ten years.

In 2004, Reno took a bullet for Nading while they were apprehending a drug dealer. Nading credits Reno with saving his life that night. Reno returned to service after recovering from the bullet wound and won a national K-9 competition.

Nading hopes Reno will be remembered as a phenomenal representative of the city of Des Moines.
