Nearly a month after the election, a tight race for the Iowa House has finally been decided.

Democrat Susan Judkins, of Clive, called for a recount after she lost the election for House District 43 by just 22 votes on election night.  Recounting the votes is a tedious process that was supposed to be completed by December 3.

Judkins called off the recount Saturday when she learned a recount of absentee ballots would not be enough to make up the difference.

That leaves Republican incumbent Chris Hagenow the winner.

House District 43 includes Windsor Heights as well as portions of Clive and West Des Moines.
