Officials are investigating an afternoon fire near Norwalk that appears suspicious.

It happened at an abandoned home at 6287 73rd Avenue, just after 11:00 a.m.

Four fire departments responded to the scene. There they found a fire burning in the back of the home. The flames got into the walls and spread to both floors of the house.

Officials say the case appears suspicious because there is no power on in the home.

During the fire a Norwalk firefighter was hurt falling through a floor. Officials say he was taken to the hospital but is expected to be okay

“You always have to have situation awareness and be aware of everything and sometimes unfortunately things happen when you’re trying to save a property,” says Chief Brian Vance of the Northern Warren Fire Department.

Crews remained on the scene to monitor hot spots through the early afternoon hours.
