The Ankeny City Council is preparing to choose a new mayor, but before they make a choice, they want to hear residents’ opinions.

Current Mayor Steve Van Oort’s was elected to serve on the Polk County Board of Supervisors last month. His last day as Mayor is Friday.

At a special meeting on Monday, December 10, the council must nominate a replacement to serve the rest of Van Oort’s term.

Eight Ankeny residents have applied for the position, which would end next December.

Before the council makes their selection they are asking residents to read through the candidates’ letters of interest, and share their opinions on the options.

You can read through those letters and share your thoughts with the Ankeny council here.
