SHERIFF SUED: Trial In Progress

A former sheriff’s employee is suing the sheriff and the county, accusing them of wrongful termination.

The trial is currently underway in Madison County, pitting Kathryn Frank against the County and sheriff, Craig Busch.

In 2006, Frank filed a sexual harassment complaint against the County and Busch. He was a deputy at the time. That case was settled out of court with Frank being awarded $60,000.

When Busch became sheriff in 2009, Frank says he threatened retaliation for her complaints against him. In August of 2009, Frank was fired.

She is suing the County and sheriff Busch for violating the Iowa civil rights act for allegedly retaliating against her.

Frank’s attorney says they have evidence showing county officials conspired to fire Frank during a closed door meeting.

The trial is expected to be completed this week.  Frank is seeking unspecified damages.
