MURPHY’S LAW: Big 4, ISU Ticket Sales, Team Kelsey
By Chris Hassel
No team has a better winning percentage, in the country, than Northern Iowa — and I mean that literally. UNI is 6-0 on U.S. soil (0-3 in the Bahamas). The Panthers are coming off a big win at George Mason. It should be a really interesting game between UNI and Iowa on Saturday in the “Big 4 Classic.”
The UNI-Iowa game tips at 1:30pm at Wells Fargo Arena. The ISU-Drake game tips 30 minutes after. The Cyclones should bounce back with a win over the Bulldogs. Iowa State hasn’t been impressive but the ‘Clones have more than enough to get by the Dogs. Around 3,000 tickets remain for the event.
Iowa State fans are snatching up Liberty Bowl tickets like hotcakes….errrrr chocolate covered bacon on a stick. The Cyclones bought up all 10,000 of their allotted tickets, so Jamie Pollard asked for more. And more. And more. ISU is now up to nearly 13,000 tickets sold. Don’t think that’s impressive? Just ask Michigan State. The Spartans were allotted 11,000 tickets for the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl (formerly the Insight Bowl) and MSU has sold 2,000 of them. Kudos to ISU fans.
The Liberty Bowl remains a “pick-em” in Vegas. A line that began at Tulsa -3 is now a toss-up. I like Iowa State in this one. The Cyclones beat ‘em once. They can beat ‘em again.
I get the sense that many ISU players and coaches aren’t too thrilled about having to play Tulsa for the second time this season. Sure, they are all saying the right things but it doesn’t seem too sincere. The opposite could be said about Tulsa head coach Bill Blankenship. The guy says he’s genuinely excited about getting another crack at Iowa State, and I believe him. I guess it shouldn’t be a surprise that Tulsa would rather have the rematch. The winner of a fight is rarely over the one calling for a rematch.
Barry Alvarez is set to make nearly $300,000 to coach the Badgers in one game.
If you haven’t seen the worst free throw attempt of all time, it’s time to give this video a watch. It will likely next be topped.
I am saddened to hear about the passing of Kelsey Michelsen. If you’ve been on Twitter over the last 24 hours, you’ve undoubtedly seen #teamkelsey trending throughout your timeline. I met her at a Southeast Polk football game last year. You can see the story Erin Kiernan put together at that night here. Erin dedicated her blog to Kelsey, tonight.
