One person is in jail after an early Monday morning accident just north of Des Moines.

The Polk county sheriff’s office says it got several calls of an erratic driver heading north in the 7000-block of North West Second Avenue.

Callers said the driver was swerving and driving on the shoulder.

Before deputies were able to catch up with the car, it crashed.

Witnesses say the driver turned hard to the left, rolled the car onto it’s side, crossed the southbound lane and ended up in the ditch.

The 21-year old driver was helped out of the vehicle.

He was not injured.

Deputies took him to the Polk county jail.

Sheriff’s deputies say it’s likely alcohol played a role in the accident.
