RAIL ROUTE: Chicago To Omaha Hearing

A public hearing on the proposed passenger rail expansion between Chicago and Omaha is being held in Des Moines Wednesday.

The Iowa Department of Transportation, the Illinois Department of Transportation, and the Federal Railroad Administration are holding the hearing to gather input from the public on the Draft Tier 1 Level Environmental Impact Statement about the project. Information on the environmental impact of the possible routes will be available at the hearing.

Iowa Department of Transportation employees will be available to talk about the project informally from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. A formal presentation on the environmental impact statement is being held at 5:30 p.m. and a question and answer session follows the presentation.

The meeting in Des Moines is being held Wednesday at the Des Moines Botanical Center.
