The Iowa Senate has a new member. Republican Charles Schneider beat Democrat Desmund Adams in the special election for Senate District 22.

According to the Secretary of State’s website Schneider claimed 56 percent of the vote.

He will represent parts of West Des Moines, Clive, Waukee, and Windsor Heights.

Schneider will replace the late Senator Pat Ward, who lost her battle with breast cancer in October.

The election won’t change the balance of power in the state Senate. Democrats hold a 26 to 24 seat advantage.
