The hustle and bustle of the holiday season is well underway; one organization is working to make sure a certain group of people aren’t forgotten during this busy time of year.

The Be a Santa to a Senior program gathers donations for Iowa’s older population. Organizers say many Des Moines area seniors will spend the holiday alone, but they don’t want them to feel forgotten.

They are asking holiday shoppers to pick up an ornament hanging on the special trees set up inside local Dahl’s grocery stores, buy an item listed on the ornament, wrap and return it to the store. The gifts will then be distributed to Seniors who may not receive any other gift this year.

The project is scheduled to end on Friday, December 14, but as of Monday nearly 1,000 ornaments remained unclaimed.
