Iowans who have served two and three deployments to the Middle East are finally getting a break.

Major General Timothy Orr of the Iowa National Guard told Radio Iowa that fewer Iowa soldiers will be deployed overseas for at least the next two years.

Currently, 218 Guard Members are deployed overseas.

General Orr says fewer Iowa soldiers are needed because of the ending of the war in Iraq and a draw down in Afghanistan.
