A Des Moines third grader says she was approached by strangers while walking home from school Wednesday.

Police say the 9-year-old left Madison Elementary around 2 p.m.  When she got to East Douglas and East 8th Street, a green 2-door vehicle stopped nearby where she was standing.

Police have described the occupants of the vehicle as white males between the ages of 20 and 25. The young girl said they asked her if she wanted some candy and a ride home.

The girl did the right thing …. She told them no and ran home.

She also told police she did not recognize the vehicle or those inside.
