A man originally wanted as a person of interest in a Des Moines shooting case has been apprehended and is now facing attempted murder charges.
Twenty-one-year-old Daveion Smith was taken into custody Thursday. Police say he fired a gun into a vehicle in the 2100 block of Forest Avenue on November 6th.
Joseph Lewis suffered a gunshot wound to the face. He was seriously injured but survived the shooting. Three other people in the car at the time of the shooting were not injured.
Police say Lewis is also responsible for a home invasion on December 11th. When officers tried to arrest him Thursday he tried to get way. During the arrest process he assaulted two officers — biting one and spitting on another.
Smith is being held in the Polk County Jail on charges of attempted murder, intimidation with a dangerous weapon, robbery, burglary, interference with official acts, and assault on a police officer.
