A construction worker had to be rescued by the fire department Friday, after a trench collapsed on him.

Crews were called to 2820 School Street in Des Moines just after 2:30 p.m. Firefighters say a construction crew was working on a home’s foundation, when the existing masonry foundation wall collapsed.

One worker became trapped in an 8 foot trench.

Fire crews were able to quickly remove the debris and help the worker out.

He was transported to Mercy Hospital for treatment.

The extent of his injuries are unknown.
