The City of Ames will formally light the new gateway light sculpture along Highway 30 just west of the I-35 Interchange this week.

The 12 towers line each side of Highway 30 and have LED lights which can change colors and patterns. Light shows can be programmed with the controlling computer, giving thousands of light combinations. The project cost close to half a million for the sculptures, and close to another half million for the concrete pillars and fencing.

Grants from the Iowa DOT and donations from south Ames businesses helped to fund the project.

Thursday December 20th at 4 pm the City of Ames has scheduled a "Light up the Night" to turn the display on near SE Dayton Place and SE 16th by the row of motels.
