Gas prices across the Des Moines metro are lower than they’ve been in quite a while and that’s helping holiday travelers out.

According to AAA, 90 percent of holiday travelers are expected to take an automobile to and from their destination.

That’s about 84-million people, which represents about 27-percent of the total population.

Experts predict the price of gas will keep slowly dropping through the end of the year.

In some parts of the metro you can get the ethanol blend for $2.91 Friday. The average price for regular gas across the state is about $3.12.
