CREATIVE LEARNING: Ames Kids Create Fitness Performance

A special project in Ames is allowing elementary students to have creative control.

Third through fifth graders have been using their hearts, lungs, muscles and brains to create a fitness performance.

The project combined art, music and gym class and worked like this; in art class the kids created computer generated CD covers, then in music each student used a program called Garage Band to create a song,  finally in P.E. the kids got into groups, selected a song, and created a performance of fitness and dance moves.

The kids performed for their classmates on Wednesday.

Teachers say it’s fun to see kids come out of their shells during the process.
