For many central Iowans, Thursday was a long cold day that turned into a long cold night, at the peak, more than 41,000 homes were without power.
Mid-American had more than 650 linemen working to get lines, pulled down by the heavy snow, back in working order.
Despite their efforts, Mid-American predicted it would be 3 days until all power was fully restored.
Friday, reports show repair crews made significant progress restoring power to more than 160,000 customers.
Approximately 3,000 more remained without power Friday evening, but crews were still working around the clock.
