SERIOUS WRECK: Icy Roads Send Car Over Guard Rail
The icy roads sent four people to the hospital Sunday morning.
The accident happened on Interstate 80-35 near Northeast 14th Street in Des Moines.
A Chevy Trailblazer was traveling west bound when sheriff’s deputies say the SUV hit a patch of ice sending it over the guard rail.
When it came to a stop on the street below, 30 year old Jessica Pasick’s arm was pinned under the roof.
Deputies say witnesses helped them free Pasick.
The other two passengers were children ages 5 and 7.
One woman who witnessed the crash said she stayed by the kids’ side to keep them calm while deputies tended to the other victims.
“I didn’t think anyone could have survived that. It looked to me like they went up over the side of the bridge and fell to the street right on the top. When I saw the car, I couldn’t believe anyone could have gotten out of there,” said Joanne Moeller, a witness.
Pasick is listed in serious condition at Mercy Medical Center.
The driver, 26 year old Alex White is in good condition.
The hospital could not yet release the children’s conditions.
