Food banks across the state are struggling to fulfill needs of the four hundred thousand Iowans in need of assistance. The Iowa Food Bank association is hoping technology will help food banks across the state stock the shelves and fill bellies.
The Iowa Food Bank Association, AARP, and Spindustry Digital teamed up to launch a virtual food drive website. The site allows donors to choose which food items they would like to donate and add them to a cart like any other online purchase. The money raised will be used to buy the items needed at that time, and also allows the food banks to buy items in bulk stretching your dollar further. The AARP says they joined on as part of their drive to end hunger campaign which targets helping those 50 and older.
“It’s a great, easy and fun way, to make a contribution to your local food bank that’s distributed through the food bank association, and can relieve hunger for people of all ages,” says AARP Iowa State Director Kent Sovern.
If you would like to help you can find the website here.
The Iowa Food Bank says the virtual drive gives people all over the world the opportunity to donate with just a few clicks.
