Republican senator Charles Grassley is in Washington, D.C. for fiscal cliff negotiations, but that’s not stopping activists from showing up at his downtown Des Moines office.

The Democratic group Progress Iowa organized four Fiscal Cliff Eve rallies at offices across the state.

“Much like you see the ball drop on Times Square on New Year’s Eve, we’re afraid if Congress doesn’t do anything, the ball is going to drop on the middle class. Middle class families will see a tax hike if nothing happens,” says Matt Sinovic with Progress Iowa.

On Twitter Grassley says, “The president isn’t keeping his election promise because he’s failing to address cutting spending as he supports raising taxes.”
