Iowa farmers suffered more than a billion dollars in losses thanks to the drought of 2012.

Wednesday, the U.S. Department of Agriculture reported corn and soybean losses topped seven figures.

Those losses are covered by federal crop insurance.

Nationwide, corn farmers lost more than $7 billion.
