FIRE NUMBERS: Deaths Decrease In 2012

The State Fire Marshall’s office has released the number of lives saved and lost in 2012 due to fire related incidents.

There were 42 fire-related deaths in Iowa in 2012, that number is down from 46 in 2011.

The fire Marshall’s office says the good news is 217 Iowans lives were saved thanks to working smoke detectors in their homes.

Since 2010 Fire departments across the state have installed more than 33,000 smoke detectors in Iowa homes.
