GUILTY PLEA: Disorderly Conduct Charge For Mayor
An eastern Iowa mayor has entered a guilty plea on a disorderly conduct charge stemming from an incident at a bar.
The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports Independence mayor Carl Scharff was originally charged with public intoxication, harassment of a public official, and interference with official acts. Those charges were dropped and Scharff pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct Monday.
Scharff must pay a fine, court costs, and fees relating to his court-appointed attorney.
The charges were filed against Scharff in connection with an argument he had with police at the Majestic Bar & Grill. Police were there to investigate a fight which they say Scharff wasn’t directly involved in.
