Des Moines police are investigating a Monday morning bank robbery on the city’s south side.

Police say the First American Bank at 4729 SW 9th Street was robbed around 11:40 a.m. The suspect passed a note to the teller and displayed what appeared to be the handle of a handgun sticking out of his waistband.

The suspect left the bank headed eastbound on foot. He got away with an undisclosed amount of money.

Police say the suspect is described as an adult white male about five-foot-five. He was wearing tan baggy pants and a dark colored waist length coat over a light colored hooded sweatshirt. The man had a thin mustache and brown curly hair that may have been a wig. He was wearing purple aviator type sunglasses.
