NEW SESSION: Bills Await Iowa Lawmakers

Capitol Generic

When lawmakers begin the 2013 session on Monday, there will be a list of bills waiting for them when they walk in the door.

Nearly three dozen bills have already been pre-filed at the statehouse.

Some of the more interesting ones include a bill from Secretary of State Matt Schultz that would require an ID to vote.

The Attorney General’s office wants to require everyone convicted of an aggravated misdemeanor to give a DNA sample.

State Senator Brad Zaun is asking the state to create an Olympics license plate to benefit local charities supported by the U.S. Olympic Committee.

Finally, a bill that may be of interest to Iowa school children, the Department of Education is trying to change the number of hours students are required to be in a classroom per school year.
