The cost of attending public colleges is rising faster than the cost of private colleges.
That’s according to research done by the Wall Street Journal. The source looked at the cost of 72 public universities.
For the 2012-2013 school year Iowa State University was ranked 17th for affordability. The University of Iowa came in at 21st place.
Both schools have seen about a 31-percent increase in tuition and fees from 2006 to 2013.
The University of Northern Iowa wasn’t considered in the report.
The University of New Mexico and the University of Florida were the two most-affordable schools with tuition adding up to just over $6,000 a year.
The University of Pittsburg and Pennsylvania State University had the highest tuition with tuition near $16,500 a year.
