COUNCIL ELECTION: Second Candidate Announced

With the successful Iowa senate election of Charles Schneider on December 1st, candidates are required to run for his vacated City Council seat.

Lucas Casey is the second name on the ballot after announcing he will seek the seat with continued economic growth a top priority, “The recent growth in West Des Moines has been a rising tide that has lifted all ships in our community. It’s allowed steady city budgets and property taxes. And it’s this growth that has contributed most to additional opportunities, improved local services and enhanced quality of life for everyone in West Des Moines.”

Casey is the Director of Institutional Accountability and Compliance at AIB College of Business. He previously worked in the President’s Office at Grand View University where he also taught in the areas of public administration and leadership.

The first candidate to officially run was John Mickelson.

The seat will represent West Des Moines Ward 2 City Council.

Others interested in running for the seat have until January 18th to file nomination papers.

Ward 2 encompasses both Polk and Dallas Counties. The special election will take place on Tuesday, February 12th.

Whoever wins will fill the remainder of Schneider’s current term, which ends December 31st, 2015.
