President Obama’s former Iowa campaign manager wants to be Iowa’s Secretary of State. Brad Anderson officially announced he is running for the position in a press conference at the statehouse Thursday.

Current Secretary of State, Matt Schultz hasn’t announced whether he’ll seek re-election next year.

One of Scultz’s main goals is to require people to show an ID when voting.

Anderson says he disagrees with that plan. “I find voter ID somewhat obsolete, anyone can make a fake ID, I think there are better ways like electronic verification that checks you in at the polls, which is a better way to prevent fraud than voter ID and doesn’t disenfranchise a single voter.”

Anderson says he knows he’s announced his decision to run early, but the advice he’s received is that getting out early is key to winning a race.
