Ames police are investigating a stabbing that put one man in the hospital Wednesday.

Police say they were contacted by Mary Greeley Medical Center around 6:45 p.m. when 27-year-old Eddie Williams arrived with a stab wound to the chest. He was taken into surgery and his condition is unknown.

During the investigation police determined the wound stemmed from an altercation in the 400 block of East 7th Street. Police say the parties involved knew each other.

A dark colored SUV was spotted in the area of the stabbing around 6:40 p.m. and may be linked to the crime.

The investigation into the stabbing continues and police say if you have any information on the case you should call them at 239-5317.
