The Xenia Rural Water District is warning some of its customers of a water main break that is prompting a boil advisory.

Customers who live east of the Des Moines River in Hamilton and Webster Counties, those north of the city of Boone, and customers surrounding Story City are advised to boil their water before drinking or using in cooking.

Xenia says a water main break Friday caused the problem and they are working on repairs.

Water must be boiled for at least one minute and cooled before it is safe to drink or use for food preparation. The water is still safe to use for bathing and laundry.

Testing will be done after repairs are completed to make sure the water is safe. Xenia will let residents know when the boil advisory is lifted.
