Des Moines police have made five arrests in what they say was an “elaborate” marijuana growing operation.
The Des Moines Police Narcotics Unit discovered the operation at 1012 Leland after locating someone who was making purchases from the address. Police also observed a suspect from the home making drug transactions.
After obtaining a search warrant for the address, investigators found about 150 marijuana plants, worth about $100,000 on the street.
Sophisticated growing equipment was also located including grow lights, tents, chemical sprayers, a water supply/filtration system, timers, and devices used to infuse carbon dioxide into the plants. The equipment is valued at between $40,000 and $50,000.
A small amount of methamphetamine and cocaine were also found. Two loaded handguns were seized as well.
Forty-two-year-old Phaly Tuon faces charges of parole violation, possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, no tax stamp, possession of meth, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Forty-year-old Matthew Jones is charged with manufacturing marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, no tax stamp, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Forty-one-year-old Julia Jones is charged with manufacturing marijuana.
Fifty-three-year-old Kevin Foust and 60-year-old Deena Foust are both charged with possession of meth and cocaine and possession of marijuana.
