Iowa women’s involvement in politics continues to grow as 35 women will serve in the State Legislature this year.

The Gazette reports this year’s crop of female legislatures ties a record set during the 2009 session.

Twenty-five of the women were voted into the Iowa House and 10 others were elected to the Iowa Senate.

Iowa is following a trend. Nationally, there are more than 1,700 female legislators in 2013.

The legislative session will begin Monday.
